Ingredients
Method
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and green pepper until browned and the vegetables are soft. Drain excess grease.
- Transfer the beef mixture to the crock pot.
- Add the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and water. Stir to combine.
- Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours (or high for 2–3 hours), stirring occasionally if possible.
- Once thickened, give it a final stir and serve on hamburger buns.
Notes
- Brown the beef with onions and peppers first for the best flavor and texture.
- If the mixture is too thin, cook uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes to thicken.
- Adjust the brown sugar to make it more or less sweet to your taste.
- Swap ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days or freeze up to 3 months.
