Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound lean ground beef, browned and drained
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 4 cups chopped green cabbage, about half a head
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup uncooked long grain white rice
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish

Method
 

  1. Add all ingredients except parsley to the slow cooker and stir well.
  2. Cook on Low for 7 to 8 hours or High for 4 to 5 hours until tender and thick.
  3. Remove bay leaf, adjust seasoning, garnish with parsley, and serve.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for the best texture
  • Uncover the slow cooker for the last 30 minutes if you prefer a thicker soup
  • Add a splash of broth when reheating if needed
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 4 days
