Slow Cooker Turkey Breast with Gravy

This slow cooker turkey breast is tender, juicy, and full of classic flavor thanks to a buttery herb rub. An easy, old fashioned turkey dinner made simple.

Ingredients
  

Turkey Butter Rub
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
Turkey
  • 4 pound turkey breast, bone in
  • 1 large onion, cut into 6 sections
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 3-4 sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme, optional
Gravy (Optional)
  • Turkey or chicken broth
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method
 

  1. Combine all dry seasonings in a small bowl. Soften butter until spreadable and set aside.
  2. Pat turkey breast dry. Add onion, garlic, and herbs to the slow cooker.
  3. Mix butter and seasonings and spread over turkey, including under the skin if present.
  4. Place turkey in the slow cooker and cook on Low until internal temperature reaches 165 F.
  5. Broil briefly if desired and let rest before slicing.
Turkey Gravy (optional)
  1. Strain cooking liquid and reserve.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour, then slowly add strained liquid until smooth and thickened. Season to taste.

Notes

  • A store bought poultry rub can be used in place of homemade
  • Stir a little turkey drippings into store bought gravy for extra flavor
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 4 days
